District Heating Costs: What Funding Options Are Available For Developers?

District heating costs play a big part in the decision to use decentralised heat networks across new build developments.

With budgets always being stretched to the limit, every source of funding can help. So are there any funding options for community groups or businesses looking to implement heat networks? Thankfully, there are options out there for those looking to run decentralised district heating systems and networks.

For businesses, the Carbon Trust Energy Efficiency Loans Scheme is able to provide interest free loans ranging from £3,000 to £100,000. This is to help organisations invest in energy saving projects. Given that communal heating has a lower carbon footprint than other conventional heating methods, this makes this form of heating eligible for this loan.

The UK government's Department of Energy & Industrial Strategy also enables businesses to claim 100% first-year capital allowances on spending towards qualifying plants and machinery for decentralised heating through Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA).

Given that fossil fuels are never going to get any cheaper, businesses, charities and local government authorities are advised to think about sustainability and their long-term energy expenditure by using renewables and low carbon options.

Evinox Energy Ltd is here to help businesses, organisations and local authorities make the transition to low carbon district heat networks. We are able to advise on district heating costs, as well as handle the supply and maintenance of heat interface units.
